You ever trip over a recipe you won't even lookin’ for?
Yeah.
That’s how these beans came into my life.
No plan. No roadmap. Just hunger and curiosity bumpin’ into each other in the kitchen like two drunks at the club.
I call ’em Moya Beans.
Why?
’Cause the more of ’em you eat, the more your ass wants to eat. Simple math. Dangerous math.
You start with one bowl.
Next thing you know, you’re sittin’ there starin’ into bowl number three, swearin’ you done—while scoopin’ up another bite anyway.
That’s how these beans move on you.
Here’s how you do it.
You grab yourself some navy beans.
Wash ’em. Pick through ’em. Treat ’em right.
Then you throw ’em in the crockpot, cover ’em with water, and let ’em soak overnight.
Let ’em dream a little.
Next morning—around eight or so—you pour that water off.
Refill with chicken broth.
That’s where the soul sneaks in.
Set the crockpot for six hours and walk away like you ain’t did nothing.
Halfway through, you come back.
Drop in about three tablespoons of butter.
Stir it slow.
Then leave it the hell alone.
When that little “warm” light come on, that’s the beans winkin’ at you.
They’re singing’, come see about me.
Now look—I didn’t have a ham hock.
Life ain’t always stocked like Kroger.
But I had ham chunks.
So I dumped a bunch in there, stirred ’em up, and let ’em ride another 30–40 minutes.
While that’s happenin’?
You better be makin’ cornbread.
Fresh. Hot. No Bull.

Now comes the test.
You scoop out a small bowl.
Black pepper.
A shake of Tony Chackers seasoning.
Maybe a pinch of salt.
Glass of Milo’s sweet tea on the side.
That’s bowl number one.
You tell yourself, yeah, that’s good.
Them ham chunks might not knock you out, but they show up to work.
Then you reach for bowl number two.
Cornbread crumblin’ in. Tea disappeared’.
And then…
Bowl number three.
That’s when you realize these beans got soul.
The more you eat, the more you want.
Same way love works. Same way trouble works.
That’s the recipe.
Easy. Honest. Dangerous.
If you try ’em, come back and tell me—
did you stop at one bowl… or did them Moya Beans get you too?
