Let me tell y’all something about my little ol’ hometown, Huntsville, Alabama. This place used to feel like a quiet hum, like blues on the front porch. slow, and familiar. Now? Hell, it’s turning into a rock concert. The the amps up too loud, and sound check ain't going right.
You ever seen a traffic jam at 3 o’clock in the afternoon? Well, come on down to Huntsville, and you’ll catch the show. I sat in traffic for almost an hour yesterday. One whole hour. Three measly lanes on what we have the nerve to call an "interstate." It’s a circus out here, not the fun kind with popcorn.

The kicker? They’re out there working on the damn highway during rush hour. Now, I ain’t no civil engineer, but even I know you don’t start hammerin’ and layin’ asphalt when folks are tryin’ to get home to their families and a beer. That’s like tryin’ to tune a guitar while the band’s already on stage. Don’t make no damn sense.
Huntsville’s growin’, alright. Construction’s everywhere—like weeds sprouting after a summer rain. And Lord, don’t get me started on these property taxes. They’re climbing faster than a squirrel on a electric pole. Growth ain’t cheap, I guess, but dang, do they have to squeeze every penny outta us while we’re stuck looking at brake lights?

I’m gonna have to write me a love letter to the highway department. Something like: “Dear whoever’s in charge of this mess, what the hell are y’all thinking? Do this work at night, or in the middle of the day when everybody’s busy. Ain’t nobody got time to sit still on I-565 watchin’ y’all move dirt around at 4:30 in the afternoon.”
Huntsville’s got growing pains, alright. It’s bittersweet, like that first sip of whiskey—smooth goin’ down, it burns just enough to make you think. Don’t get me wrong, I love my hometown. But sometimes, I swear it feels like we’re steppin’ on our own toes tryin’ to keep up with change.
Tell me, is your city playin’ the same game ? Are you singin’ the traffic blues, too? Drop me a line.
