Good morning, Last night on TikTok, someone asked me a question. They wanted to know about the most unique equipment I own. Now, I’ve got my share of guitars and harmonicas, but my answer might surprise you. It’s not an instrument, but rather my music editing software. This bitch blows my mind !
A few years back, I found myself volunteering at Calhoun college in my hometown. I was a volunteer artist in the audio engineering course, and let me tell you, that was an eye-opener. I got to see these young engineers working with all kinds of software to produce music. They used tools like Pro Tools, FL Studio, Reaper, Audacity, and many others. Each one had its own unique characteristics, its own flavor if you will. Some of them were pretty deep . But the magic of it all was how they could manipulate sound down to the bit level.
I asked a few of the students for their recommendations. They all had different favorites, but one suggestion stood out: “Study them all and try Reaper.” So, I did. After giving it a go, I found that Reaper was the software for me. Im still learning and still fascinated.
Running Reaper on a good computer gives an artist or an audio engineer the ability to shape and mold sound with precision. It’s like having a whole orchestra at your fingertips. You can tweak every little detail, shaping the sound until it’s just right. For me, it’s magical what this audio software can do. Beats the hell out of old school tape recordings.
So, if you ask me about the most unique piece of equipment I own, it’s not a vintage guitar or a rare harmonica. It’s my computer and my music editing software. With these tools, I can create, edit, and perfect my music in ways I never thought possible. Unbelievable what it can do.
Keep exploring, keep experimenting, and most importantly, keep making music. You never know what kind of magic you might discover.
Till next time, Keep making music,
This is fun , ask me another question.
